Captain your own river cruise adventure! Self-drive houseboat charters on the Vaal River, just 1 hour from Joburg.

The kids love the adventure of boating and sleeping on the river. They can learn to fish, be towed behind the houseboat on a tube, or just enjoy the scenery from the deck and roof. There are also several shoreside destinations that you can dock at that have child friendly facilities.

The eight houseboats each sleep a maximum of five people. There are two double beds and a single bunk.There is a small bathroom with chemical toilet, shower and basin. There is a kitchenette with gas oven and stove, a fridge, a sink and all crockery and cutlery. There is also a small Weber braai. The houseboats are fully kitted out - all you have to bring is your food, clothes, toiletries and towels.

2. Enjoy house-spotting on Millionaires’ Bend. Test your skill with a fishing rod. Haul out the twitching kit.
3. Experience the tranquillity of unspoilt wetlands, misty sunrises and balmy evenings. Moor in a secluded spot, light up the on-board braai and watch the sun set. Then retire to bed on the boat under the starry sky with the lapping waves and croaking frogs as company. It’s totally exclusive and totally private, and very, very memorable.
4. There’s also overnight mooring at some of the riverfront restaurant jetties.

Delayed Departures:
Subject to availability, we will guarantee you the boat on your day of departure until 16h00 for an additional R495 per boat or until 14h00 for R295. This excludes peak season.

Minimum Stays:
Please note that no single night bookings are accepted over weekends and at Christmas. A three-night minimum stay is required on public holiday weekends and Easter weekend.

Day Charters:
Day charters are available from Monday to Thursday at a cost of R895 per day (up to six people) in high season and R500 in low season.

Additional costs to bear in mind are:

1. The costs of petrol consumed: a 25 litre tank costs about R275 (depending on prevailing petrol price) and is sufficient for between 3-4 hours of cruising.
2. Any additional equipment hired from us, such as fishing rods and reels (basic tackle and bait are available for purchase), bath towels and swimming towels, tubes, etc. We also have a portable DVD player for rent – this helps entertain the kiddies! Please reserve this prior to your arrival and don’t forget to bring DVDs.
3. Any supplies purchased from us eg charcoal and firelighters.

CANCELLATION POLICY:

o            Late Departure:                                                         full charter fee due

o            Cancel on day prior to, day of, or during charter:            full charter fee forfeited.

o            Cancel 2 – 7 days before date of arrival:                         75% of charter fee.

o            Cancel 8 - 14 days before date of arrival:                        50% of charter fee.

o            15 - 21 days before date of arrival:                                25% of charter fee.

o            Cancel 21 + days before date of arrival:                          full refund
